Flying Ant Problems In Manchester, Trafford, Lancashire and Cheshire

Saturday, 13. March 2010

Ants in the house are the dread of many houses in summer leaving many people to fear the summer and the annual flying ants invasion.

Only the unfortunate people who have suffered it will know the true horror of flying ants in their homes.

Having an infestation of plain old wingless ants is bad enough but when they enter their annual mating phase the situation can become dreadul.

Ants will form colonies under the floors and in the wall cavities of our dwellings and these colonies will survive for many years if left untreated becoming progressively more persistent every year.

Our dwellings are warm and dry and provide the ideal places for a thriving ant colony; even solid hard floor is not a problem to ants.

Our central heating systems raises their metabolism even in the colder months when they are not active outdoors and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, in January!

Ants prefer a sandy soil and there are many areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which tend to provide more ant problems than other areas, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant spots.

Unfortunately it is during their mating time that they are most annoying. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this usually is pretty regularly around the third or fourth week in July.

Ants mate on the wing and sometime around mid-summer the colony produces winged immature Queens and winged males which in nature would fly off and mate on the wing. Many thousands of these winged ants are produced by each and nests tend to synchronise their release so that they mate with ants from other nearby.

Normally this process starts after a few of days of hot, dry weather and will often last for about seven to ten although smaller releases will continue throughout most of the summer.

Unfortunately when the nest is under the floor of the property the results can be devastating, literally thousands of flying are produced into the lower rooms, collecting on windows as they make for the light.

This can be very upsetting for some people leading to severe emotional trauma to the extent that people learn to fear the summertime and have actually left their homes to escape the plague of ants which they know comes each summer.

The poor summers of 2007, 2008 & 2009 have meant that ant problems were down on previous years but ants appear to have a way of catching up and 2010 looks set to be a particularly troublesome year.

Most people who have this problem attempt for DIY solutions with powders from hardware shops etc but mostly these efforts do not succeed as they are not getting to the heart of the problem which is the colony itself, tucked safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.

luckily for many people the answer.

At Harrier Pest Control (subject to site survey) we are able to curee this problem and issue an extendable three year guarantee.

The treatment which is done mainly from the outside of the house, is perfectly safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling small holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing an insecticidal powder into the cavity wall under pressure.

This forms an impenetrable barrier through which the ants cannot cross and along with a precautionary internal spray treatment (if deemed necessary) will gradually bring the infestation under control.

The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter remain open so it is a simply matter of topping up the cavity walls every three years to extend the effectiveness of the guarantee in three year terms.

This procedure is best carried out in the early spring however it can be done at any time of year.

As a limited time offer before our busy period begins we are offering 25% off the normal cost until May 30 2010. Whilst we normally cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to travel further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.

Installing of Flat Screen TV With Ease

Saturday, 13. March 2010

Are you worried about wall mounting of your flat screen TV? No need to worry any more if you read this article. A TV wall mount bracket is the first thing you need for wall mounting of your TV.

Now, there are three types of brackets used in TV wall mounting and which form the basis of the three types of wall mounting of your flat screen. The brackets available in the market include low-profile, tilting and full-motion wall mounts. They have their own advantages and disadvantages as well. Let’s look at the different Flat Screen TV Wall Mounts

TV Wall Mount Using Low-Profile Brackets

A low-profile wall mount bracket is considered to be the easiest and simplest one to mount and is the most cost-effective when compared to other two types of the available wall mounts. The low-profile bracket makes your installation so easy as if you are hanging a painting on the wall Though a low-profile is the easiest way to mount your TV, it restricts you in moving your TV from its position once the installation is complete. This limitation makes it difficult when you try to change your cables. It’s being a flat TV and mounted on a flat wall, it’s not possible to change cables without displacing the TV from the wall.

Tilting Installation of Flat TV

These brackets are bit costlier than the low-profile ones but are cheaper than the full-motion wall mounting brackets. The installation of this type of brackets is not very complicated, and akin to a low-profile mount. The only advantage that you get with a tilting mount is that it gives you freedom to adjust the vertical angle of viewing. These mounting brackets have a spin in the middle of the brackets. This pivot helps to maintain a great viewing angle as per the convenience of the viewer. Changing cables is not a problem in a tilting wall mount unlike it’s in the case of low-profile mount.

TV Wall Mount Using Full-Motion Brackets

Full-motion wall mounts give your wall-mounted TV a full motion and of course a higher cost is associated with it. They are the costliest of all types of wall mounts. These are generally complex to install. These wall mounts are difficult to install due to the moving arms they use to have. You will certainly need 2-3 more people when you will try to wall mount your TV using full-motion mount brackets.

How To Write A Job Winning Resume

Saturday, 13. March 2010

Job hunting can be one of the most exhilarating and yet one of the most agonizing experiences in your life. While you look forward to the new chapter in your professional life, finding a way to stand out from other candidates, who are at least equally qualified for the position you want, is a difficult task. Here are some tips effective resume writing.

Your resume is the first contact your potential employer has with you. A well formatted and a well-written resume can make a difference between getting the interview and getting the job, and being passed over. These tips on writing a resume can really make a difference. Most employers receive a stack of resumes of qualified candidates and scan them quickly before they decide whether or not hey want to read further. You only have a few seconds to make a lasting impression. Don’t panic. Instead, focus on the design of your resume as it is the first thing your employer, whether on paper or in electronic form.

The most commonly made mistake in resume design include using templates that are already available in Microsoft Word. While these templates provide a quick, easy to follow tools to create your resume, they are outdated, and they will make your resume appear generic and uninviting. Additionally, these templates, while well formatted in Microsoft Word, will not translate well when emailed or uploaded to job search engine web sites.

Second most commonly made mistake in resume design is inclusion of graphics on the page. Your picture and/or any other graphics are not appropriate for a resume. Including anything outside of plain text will make you stand out in a way that makes the employer think you are not taking yourself seriously as a professional, and this is certainly not the first impression you want to make. You can find samples of resumes on the Internet; search for resumes by your industry to find the templates that make most sense for the job you are seeking. Then work on a blank page to replicate the look and feel of the resume you like.

The following are basic formatting rules for your resume:

- Limit the length of the resume to two pages.

- The page should have one-inch margins, top and bottom, right and left.

- Use left justification only as a rule, do not center the content of your resume.

- The font and font size should be consistent.

- The bullet points should be basic – use circles or squares, but never any symbols that may not translate well when you email your resume to your potential employer.

- Headlines can be in all caps; the remaining text should not have special formatting.

- Do not underline any of the information in your resume. In the world of Internet driven job applications, underlining in a document implies a web link.

- The font size for headlines should not exceed 14 points; the remainder of the text in the resume should not exceed 12 points.

- Use the Tab key instead of the Space bar to create spaces between the text in your resume.

As a last formatting check point, ask your friends or your family for help in reviewing your resume. Send the resume file via email to a few of your friends; ask them to review the resume and make sure nothing seems out of place. Print out the resume on paper and review to make sure that margins are accurately set, and that the content doesn’t appear crowded on the page. Keep in mind; when it comes to your resume, sleek simple appearance, and great writing, will get you the job you are seeking.

Important Factors To Know Before You Hire A SEO Specialist

Saturday, 13. March 2010

Locating an affordable small business SEO specialist can take some time. There are many factors to consider before finalizing the search. below are a couple of things to consider before you settle on a company that provides SEO for small business.

Onpage website analysis. There are many reasons as to why your websites pages may not be indexed by the search engines. Before you can obtain rankings you need to ensure that there is nothing keeping the search engines away. Common occurrences with many websites are duplicate page titles. Having the exact same title on every page of your website tells search engines nothing about those individual pages on your website. Duplicated page titles, page descriptions or duplicated content on several pages of your website can cause search engines, especially Google to not index or even de index important pages on your website.

Keyword research. What are the keywords and phrases a customer uses to find the goods or services you offer online? And more importantly what words searches will result in a sale or conversion. Do you have the knowledge of these important words and phrases? A good SEO firm will know what keywords and phrases are best for your type of business. They will make suggestions and recommendations that will supply a never ending stream of visitors to your website who are looking for the goods and services you provide.

Content optimization and creation. Whether it is rewriting the content on your current pages or adding new pages with written content, your website needs to have written text that search engine can read and index. There is a saying in SEO, content is king. This is true. However, having content alone will not make your website rank. It is what you do with that content that makes all the difference in what and when your website will rank. It is the words and phrases in the text on your web pages that Google will use to determine what your website is about and what your website should rank for. Optimizing the content already on your website and adding new optimized content to your website is vital to your websites rankings.

Site maps. The internal link structure of any website needs to be clean and efficient. A flat architecture, meaning a site that does not have a large number pages inside of directories inside of additional directories, is preferred but not always possible with sites that have been online for some time. Site maps allow easy access for search engine spiders to view all the pages on your website for indexing from one simple, easy to access page. Not all websites have a site map but well optimized websites will have one.

Website submission. To ensure proper indexing of your website, it will need to be indexed on a regular basis. For new websites, indexing can be easily accomplished through blog post comments. Google recommends that websites be found and indexed through natural means, not necessarily through submission forms that are available with any search engine. Services that offer have your website indexed for a fee is basically a waste of money as this service is not needed. There are ways to get any website indexed at no additional cost and reputable SEO firms will be able to do this as a regular part of their service to your website.

Inbound links. A contextual link building campaign should be included in any SEO program. Google in particular puts a great deal of value on the number and quantity of inbound links pointing to your website. Other relevant factors can influence the quality of the links that point toward your website. Reciprocal links, directory links, contextual links, high quality themed links are all needed to successfully inform search engines of your websites topic and keyword ranking themes. Along with inbound links, relevant anchor text, the actual text in the clickable part of the link, is also very important in the linking process.

Ranking reports. It is always important to know how your keywords are doing within the search results of the most important search engines. Ranking reports are a simple, effective and required way to stay informed of how well your SEO campaign is doing. Most SEO firms will supply ranking reports on a monthly basis. Some will supply reports on a weekly basis or as requested. Although rankings can and will vary from day to day and week to week, keeping adequate reports will keep you informed of the overall progress of the search engine optimization work.

SEO maintenance programs. Search engines are constantly refining the algorithms used to determine rankings. Competitive businesses in any field are constantly optimizing and adding content to their own websites. With this in mind, SEO cannot be considered a one time or short-term process. SEO maintenance plans allow for ongoing website and rankings to be monitored and adjusted as needed. Maintenance plans usually include monthly consulting, low volume link building and content creation and contributions as needed. SEO maintenance plans are usually very affordable and allow for continuous improvement of the results obtained in the initial SEO campaign.

Business SEO is not a small undertaking. There can be a significant cost to the SEO campaign depending on the scope and size of the business. Local small businesses can have relatively simple SEO needs. Online retailers needing Ecommerce SEO for businesses that support many employees can need a significantly greater investment in time and cost to achieve their specific optimization needs.

Finding an experienced SEO specialist that can answer important questions and offer expert advice is the key to a successful SEO campaign for a business of any size. Keep these recommendations in mind as you begin the process of ranking your business website.

Insuring Your Motor Vehicle On Cross-Country Road Trips

Friday, 12. March 2010

Everybody needs a vacation at some point or another. There are various ways to travel into another country; be it by plane, ship or train. Many people love the lure of the open road, and would much prefer to take their own vehicle on their holiday. This can make the journey itself a little holiday, and not only the destination. It can also be nice to have your own car for your holiday, as you will not have to worry about transportation in the new country. Furthermore, the whole drive can be converted into a lovely road trip.

When people take their cars cross country they are usually worried about customs legalities, and whether or not their car will be legally permitted cross border. Along with this, they will usually stress about what the roads in the other country will be like, and will ensure they have spare tires, and emergency kits in case of breakdowns and problems along the way. Unfortunately, what some people do not even consider is the insurance on their car. In most cases, a car insurance policy will not include cover outside of the country jurisdiction. You have just as high a risk of having a collision in another country, if not more, since you will not be familiar with the roads. What also needs to be taken into account is the theft risk that the country bears.

These are all reasons why it is important for you, before you venture on your trip, to make certain your car will still be covered. Approach your auto insurance company and ask them whether or not your car will still be insured when entering another country. In plenty of cases, it will not be. Some vehicle insurance providers will make you pay a surplus fee to get your car insured in another country.

This can be an extension added onto your policy. Should you be considering on traveling a lot, it can be a good idea to take this extra out permanently on your policy.

Have you got a uPVC door? Or do you have a Composite wooden door? If so you may want to read on…..

Friday, 12. March 2010

Have you heard about the Anti-Snap cylinder? Most uPVC or composite doors have regular 5 pin cylinders as lock barrels, and the mulit point locking system. Therefore – you lift the handles, to engage the locking mechanism and turn the keys to lock the bolt.

You’d think secure wouldn’t you? Well…it’s probably the least secure front door lock out there. Burglars simply wrench the handles off the door, stick a set of mold grips around the cylinder snap it out of the door, flick the latch over and ‘hey presto’ they’re in you house. All of this within about 30 seconds!

Scary thought i’m sure. Here at the Locksmiths Liverpool we have a simple solution – swap your regular lock barrel for a 6 Pin Anti-Snap, and the cylinder has 2 additional snapping points that leave the weakest part of the cylinder in tact and covering the latch. That way the burglar, snaps the cylinder out of the door but can go no further because the latch is still covered inside your mechanism. At worst it costs you a new set of handles and a new Anti-Snap cylinder – at best it’s saved your best china, the Audi A6 on the driveway, the plasma TV and DVD – and the wallet on the side board!

My advice – spend the £45 it could cost you to get a new Anti-Snap cylinder fitted – and reap the rewards should you house have an attempted burglary!

Trust me – i’m a Locksmith!

Visting Dry Tortugas National Park

Friday, 12. March 2010

So where is Dry Tortugas anyway? And how did such a memorable national treasure get such a strange name? About 68 miles off the western tip of Key West, Dry Tortugas National Park is a group of tiny islets known for their sea turtles. A portion of its unique name is explained by the fact that the Spanish word for turtles is tortugas.

But what makes it dry, given that Dry Tortugas Park is surrounded by the waters of the crystal clear blue Caribbean? The name was derived from the Spaniards – when they settled the islets, they soon discovered that there were no fresh water springs. So the islands eventually became known as the Dry Tortugas, or “dry turtles.” To this day, as a popular tourism destination, boaters must bring their own water to the islands.

First named a National Monument in 1935 by FDR, Dry Tortugas was designated a national park in 1992 at the end of George H. W. Bush’s term. As the home of the unfinished Civil War era Ft Jefferson (a brick structure which came to be used as a prison housing accused conspirators in Lincoln’s assassination), the strip of sandy beaches and colorful reefs is now a destination for the 80,000 tourists who visit each year. All leave this national treasure in amazement at its fascinating history involving its original intent to be a fortress against the real Caribbean pirates.

Visitors to Dry Tortugas can enjoy a large array of activities, from educational tours of Ft. Jefferson, to lazy days on the beach, to spectacular wildlife snorkel tours of the corral reef.

Of course, visitors can only arrive by chartered boat of sea plane. So if you want to book a trip, a Dry Tortugas charter will be necessary. There are some great discounts available on Dry Tortugas charters, Key West hotels, Key West snorkeling, and other recreation packages at Gold Card Key West.

How to find a profitable business model

Thursday, 11. March 2010

First of all what do we mean when we say business model? A business model is a representation of how the company will make money. It is a condensed description of how an organization or company conducts business and how they generate income.

Some pointers when selecting a business model:

Read and examine models that other successful individuals have used when offering related product and services. Innovation is a good thing however; duplicating a proven business model insures success.

The best option is to duplicate a successful business.

The 9 building blocks of a basic business model would constitute the following:

- Core capabilities – competency and capacity needed to accomplish the model.
- Key partners – partner network participation in the model and other aspects of it.
- Value configuration – underlying principle for a mutual beneficial relationship between an organization or company and its customers.
- Value proposition – the products and services being offered to the market.
- Target market – the objective of any business is to attract customers to buy the products and services offered in order to earn income.
- Distribution channel – communication and distribution route to reach customers and offer them the value proposition which would include the marketing and distribution strategy.
- Client/Customer relationship – the link that is established with the customers and the process of client relationship development.
- Cost structure – the monetary requirement in deploying the business model.
- Revenue streams – how the company makes money which constitutes the revenue model.

Once you have chosen your business model, the next step is to create your actual business plan. One of the best things about creating your business plan is that it may cause you to rethink aspects of your business model.

Welcome Changes

A change in the model chosen is just part of the process. Although the model picked is firm and tested, there is still a need to make minor changes. Change is good but too much change may pose a threat to your company. Picking out business models that other successful companies use has been proven to increase the chance for success. Adopting a business model does not necessarily mean completely copying it.

Business model innovation

Innovation is closely related to the creation of business models. New and innovative models create a threat to replace other established trade models and traditional means of doing business. Some established organizations and companies look for new and unique business models that will compete with other companies thereby securing their position and success in the industry they are in.

Entrepreneurs and executives heighten their competency to manage continuous change and adapt to hasty changes in the business world. They do this by embracing and implementing new ideas into their business models.

A great business model does not ensure you that you are going to be successful. Hard work is certainly a great weapon for anyone’s success!
